Don’t be a square! Instagram your park photos!

Hi! Geneva here. I wanted to share with you one of the great joys I have found in the Park. I have been an amateur photographer my whole life. I also feel like I have owned a camera, of some kind, my whole life. While in college I took photography classes and learned to process my own pictures. Let’s just say I love taking pictures and the Park is the perfect place to take pictures.

There are many good photography apps available but the most well-known is probably Instagram. Instagram is an online photo-sharing, video-sharing and social networking service that enables its users to take pictures and videos, apply digital filters to them, and share them on a variety of social networking services, such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Flickr. A distinctive feature is that it confines photos to a square shape, similar to Polaroid images, in contrast to the 16:9 aspect ratio now typically used by mobile device cameras.  Due to some early issues concerning the rights of your photos it took me a while to become an ‘iger’ but now I love Instagram and most of the pictures in my account are taken in the park. I use an HTC One as my phone/camera and l love the quality of photos I am able to achieve.

I have even created a collage on my office door of my Instagram pictures from the Park. On Instagram, you can find me at @nevanicole or the Park at  @neworleanscitypark.

The Park is currently hosting a photography contest. Employees can’t enter the contest, but you can! Click here for details, rules, and the necessary forms. The contest’s theme is The Spirit of City Park. With the Park looking so great this Spring, the staff can’t wait to see all the creative photo submissions.
